Cruel. Vainglorious. Steeped in blood. And now, surely, after more than four decades of terror and oppression, on his way out?

[This is the headline over an article by Robert Fisk in today's edition of The Independent. The first, eighth and ninth paragraphs read as follows:]

So even the old, paranoid, crazed fox of Libya – the pallid, infantile, droop-cheeked dictator from Sirte, owner of his own female praetorian guard, author of the preposterous Green Book, who once announced he would ride to a Non-Aligned Movement summit in Belgrade on his white charger – is going to ground. Or gone. Last night, the man I first saw more than three decades ago, solemnly saluting a phalanx of black-uniformed frogmen as they flappered their way across the sulphur-hot tarmac of Green Square on a torrid night in Tripoli during a seven-hour military parade, appeared to be on the run at last, pursued – like the dictators of Tunis and Cairo – by his own furious people. (...)

And if what we are witnessing is a true revolution in Libya, then we shall soon be able – unless the Western embassy flunkies get there first for a spot of serious, desperate looting – to rifle through the Tripoli files and read the Libyan version of Lockerbie and the 1989 UTA Flight 722 plane bombing; and of the Berlin disco bombings, for which a host of Arab civilians and Gaddafi's own adopted daughter were killed in America's 1986 revenge raids; and of his IRA arms supplies and of his assassination of opponents at home and abroad, and of the murder of a British policewoman, and of his invasion of Chad and the deals with British oil magnates; and (woe betide us all at this point) of the truth behind the grotesque deportation of the soon-to-expire al-Megrahi, the supposed Lockerbie bomber too ill to die, who may, even now, reveal some secrets which the Fox of Libya – along with Gordon Brown and the Attorney General for Scotland, for all are equal on the Gaddafi world stage – would rather we didn't know about.

And who knows what the Green Book Archives – and please, O insurgents of Libya, do NOT in thy righteous anger burn these priceless documents – will tell us about Lord Blair's supine visit to this hideous old man; an addled figure whose "statesmanlike" gesture (the words, of course, come from that old Marxist fraud Jack Straw, when the author of Escape to Hell promised to hand over the nuclear nick-nacks which his scientists had signally failed to turn into a bomb) allowed our own faith-based Leader to claim that, had we not smitten the Saddamites with our justified anger because of their own non-existent weapons of mass destruction, Libya, too, would have joined the Axis of Evil.

[A knowledgeable commentator on and recent visitor to Libya has just sent me an e-mail containing the following sentences:]

Looks like the Colonel is doomed, which can only be a good thing. In view of events in Libya, I’d like, if I may, to pose the following rhetorical question on your blog:

What’s the betting that, sometime in the next few weeks, the following happens:

1. In the burned out ruins of a Libyan government building, someone finds definitive documentary ‘proof’ that Libya and Megrahi were responsible for Lockerbie, and/or

2. A Libyan official reveals, ‘we did it’.

The official case is now so thin that only such concoctions can save it (although it’s also crossed my mind that a prisoner will come forward who says ‘Megrahi confessed to me' – another hallmark of paper-thin cases).

  1. Similar to that Galloway receipt for oil shares that was found in a burned out building in Iraq?
It will just be laughed off, I think - even if it were genuine.

I am more interested in how the fall of the Jamahiriya, and the manner in which it is falling, changes the dynamics of the Megrahi affair - it's going to be fascinating listening to all the opposing parties now. Who could have predicted this turn of events?

  2. Perhaps quite the opposite might come out. Megrahi might be free to explain why he had no other choice but to give up his appeal.

  3. Ruth, if only. Alas I fear it will be as Robert predicts. "Papers" will be found "proving" Libya and Megrahi guilty.

  4. Robert is not doing the predicting, Jo G!

  5. What, more papers, Joe? Here are two short articles from The Jerusalem Post by David Horowitz, the first dated 29th of January 1989 and the second the 16th of April 1989. As you can see from the second article, it seems that only a month after the incident US intelligence had "papers" proving that Libya was responsible.Maybe copies will turn up in Tripoli! Or else US intelligence made it all up and fed it to The Sunday Telegraph......

LONDON - Investigators of last month's Pan Am Jumbo crash over Lockerbie are taking seriously a letter which appears to show Libyan responsibility for the bombing. The letter, said in today's Sunday Telegraph to have been written by the former head of Libya's diplomatic mission here, praises Col. Gaddafi for the Lockerbie bombing, congratulating him on "the slaughter of the American and British imperialists."

    News in Brief
The terrorist network responsible for last December's Lockerbie bombing was conceived early last year in Libya, according to American intelligence sources quoted in today's Sunday Telegraph. The paper says that Colonel Muammar Gaddafi chaired a meeting between the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command and the Iranian Revolutionary Guards at which plots against U.S. targets were formulated.

The chance of truth in the "Lockerbie-Affair" for the Leader Moammar Gaddhafi and the Libyan people has come.
A new Buisiness deal with Great Britain's (LBBC) as "Bridges Bilding Business With Libya" must be renew in the future, only against the opening of all "Lockerbie documents", such as:

    1) The secret documents of the Scottish Criminal Cases Reappeal
Commission (SCCRC) which in 6 points, a Miscarriage of Justice
    prognosticate;
    2) Opening of the document under "National Security " (PII) and;
    3) An investigation and criminal charge against well-known UK / Scottish Officials, because this have manipulated crucial evidence and documents (Label) to disadvantage of Libya and Abdelbaset Al Megrahi !
    4) UK compensation payments to all damaged persons and companies, as
Abdelbaset Al Megrahi, of the Libyan people, AirMalta, MEBO Ltd, Edwin Bollier, MEBO Ltd, (Me-Bo) and others.
    5) Scotland is also liable for the sum or repayment of US$ 2.7billion
victim money to the Gaddafi International Charity and Development Foundation (GICDF) at Geneva Switzerland, by Dr. Seif El Islam.

The Libyan government does not have any connection with the PanAm 103 attack.
Neither Libya nor Libyans were involved in this Tragedy from the beginning to the end. It is not a groundless defense, it is the definite truth through new forensic of evidence material.
Some of the Scottish *Officials are the true criminals in the "Lockerbie Affair", are responsible for manipulating evidence and are still protected by the Scottish Justice !
(*They are not involved in the PanAm 103 bombing, but responsible for the conspiracy against Libya).

1.) Die geheimen Dokumente der Schottischen Strafsachen Reappeal Kommission (SCCRC), die in 6 Punkten, ein Justizirrtum

    2.) Öffnung des Dokuments unter "National Security" (PII) ;

It clearly confirms that today's "Libya-Tragedy" was on the foundation of
the "Lockerbie conspiracy" against the Leader Moammar Gaddafi and the early release of the innocent Abdelbaset Al Megrahi built up ! (see the publicaton of U.S. Senators "Justice Undone, the Release of the Lockerbie bomber", published in December. 2010).
The Scottish Parliament now has the duty opposite to the Libyan people and the world, immediately the SCCRC documents (Miscarriage of Justice in 6 points) and the document under "National Security" (PII), and the circumstances of the withdrawal of Al Megrahi's promising Appeal to open, respectively to explain !
MEBO will published in the next days new evidence, scientific forensic tested, in the context of the manipulated MST-13 timer fragment (PT/35), confirming beyond doubt that Libya has nothing to do with the PanAm 103 crash in 1988 !
It turns later in United Kingdom, the question of responsibility in this sordid matter
    +++

(see US Senators "Justice Undone, the Release of the Lockerbie Bomber", publiziert im Dezember 2010).

Merely demonstrates, Grendal, that you can't believe everything the newspapers say!

I'm waiting for press reports of Abdelbaset al-Megrahi confessing on his deathbed that he was guilty all along, before being executed by an out-of-control crazed anti-Gaddafi protester (or Western intelligence agent - take your pick).

Worldwide condemnation of Megrahi's execution would then ensue, led by former British Foreign Secretary Sir Malcolm Rifkind.

  12. Sorry, Jo. I must have been concentrating too much on how to spell Gaddafi and Megraghi.
I was trying to make a serious point however.
If American Intelligence was claiming it had a copy of a letter written by the former head of Libya's diplomatic mission in London incriminating Gaddafi only a month after the atrocity,
then why was it not presented as evidence at Camp Zeist? And if there was no such letter why did US Intelligence tell The Sunday Telegraph that the letter existed? If there is an allegation that Libya was framed then this leak would tend to back it up.
I have tried to trace the original articles in The Sunday Telegraph with a view to contacting the journalist but my computing skills are not up to it.
    Can anyone help?

  13. Ask Eddie. He's a wizard at that sort of thing.

The framing of Libya seems to me to be separate from the framing of Megrahi, and only connected in that the latter emerged as a consequence of the former. Reagan went off on one against Libya on about day seven. Edwin was writing peculiar letters on Spanish typewriters on day 30. There's a thread there from the start.

Mainly though, it seems at first to be about NOT blaming the people the authorities don't want blamed. First we have to say that the bomb didn't go on board at Heathrow. Then we have to exonerate Frankfurt. Then we really really don't want the embarrassment of having to look too closely at the PFLP-GC.

And as the investigation turns away from where the real hard evidence is, all this soft innuendo about Libya begins to accumulate, deeply dodgy though it is.

And then, finally, here is a real live breathing Libyan in the right place to have it all pinned on him. So we'll twist Giaka's arm to "remember" evidence we feed to him, and we'll soften up Gauci with hints about mega-cash so he doesn't say anything embarrassing, and there you go.

Of course he was framed. There's no other way to interpret what happened.

HM 4 decades of terror and oppression? really? Is this irony?
Mandela must have been musinformed then:

This man (Gaddafi) helped us at a time when we were all alone, when those (Britain and the US) who say we should not come here (Libya) were helping the enemy."
    Nelson Mandela, 1997

4 decades of oppression? a few facts might be helpful, prof Black!

and if Gadaffi is paranoid...well as they say: Just because your paranoid doesnt mean they are not out to get you!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Gadaffi (spelling is phonetic so doesn't matter) should be thought of as semi-retired, he doesn't run the Government's day to day business, those who assisted him in the 1969 bloodless coup and others do run the show. These same people are now negotiating with the UN Security Council (USA and Britain) and suggesting a coup whereby Gadaffi is removed and the same old people continue to run the show.

Blame / sacrifice Gadaffi and continue on with the same people in charge with UN support.

This is seriously being considered now by the western powers that be. In my view the west will like this option because it will be viewed as the route to short term stability. Oil prices could be kept down and stock market instability could be reduced.

The Libyan people, realising the real situation which the west is incapable of doing, won't be fooled by this nor will they buy into it, particularly those in Benghazi and the east of Libya where there are also powers that be that want to control oil revenues.

As I have said on here before it is all about who gets to control and profit from oil ("The Prize"). Those competing for the Prize (including USA and Britain) have no problem doing so under the guise of promoting freedom and democracy, and have used their intellegence services to hire mercenaries in the past to create a skewed impression in the west that there was local unrest (and thus are capable of being responsible for the mercenaries now being on the scene said to be hired by Gadaffi). They have the ear of western media.

In any event, later today or in the short term future Gadaffi will be sacrificed as the bad guy. Then what?

There is no question whatsoever that the Prize is more important to UK politicians than justice. It seems to me that the purpose of this web site is to try and change that.

Gadaffi's brand of socialism in Libya has created an entrenched black market economy where virtually everything that gets done is accomplished through bribes. Bribes have long been the means whereby Libyan wealth is distributed. It will be dead simple to bribe top Libyan officials to say or do almost anything - in fact such officials will now be offering to say or do whatever for a price. This is how they have fed their families for decades so they are well schooled in the art of bribe-taking as is almost every Libyan that is in charge of anything people need or want. UK and USA embassy officials know this for certain.

As such anyone truly seeking the truth about Lockerbie must be suspect of everything they hear in the media at this time of unrest and change. The key to the truth about Lockerbie is to focus on examination of the Scottish Justice System and how it was manipulated for political reasons because of the Prize.

Which reminds me of the letter I wrote to The Guardian on 22 April 1992:
ANC as the fall-guys for Lockerbie bombing
If my theory that Winnie Mandela has been and continues to be framed is correct and the ANC are being groomed as the real Lockerbie culprits, the Western media are about to tell us that Libya trained ANC guerrillas and figured on one of Nelson Mandela's first overseas itineraries after his release from a 25-year incarceration.
