A reminder that a hearing on the petition to the High Court of Justiciary by the Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission (seeking guidance on whether relatives of Lockerbie victims would have a legitimate interest to pursue an appeal against the conviction of Abdelbaset Megrahi) is due to take place at the High Court in Edinburgh on Friday, 27 March at 10.00. The background to this hearing is outlined in the following blogposts:
This makes me nervous. The legal establishment has been daring, indeed taunting the relatives of the victims to apply for a new appeal. They've been expressing firm determination to defend the conviction robustly, and indeed seem to relish the thought.
ReplyDeleteAt the same time I have no doubt whatsoever that they are lobbying away behind the scenes trying to influence the High Court to reject the application from the victims' relatives.

DeleteHow could this be anything else than "Yes"
If wife(s), children, parents or siblings of any person would not have a legitimate interest, who on earth would?
It is not a speeding ticket but a conviction in a mass murder case.
SCCRC has spoken.
But of course they can write a 200 pages paper, loaded with references, that shows why this is a complex matter, that unfortunately had to end with a "No".
