Death of Jakes Gerwel

I am saddened to learn of the death on Wednesday of Jakes Gerwel who, as director-general of Nelson Mandela’s Presidential Office in South Africa from 1994 to 1999, played an important part in brokering the arrangements that led to the surrender of Abdelbaset Megrahi and Lamin Fhima for trial at the Scottish Court in the Netherlands.
