Lautenberg statement on Megrahi's appearance at pro-Qaddafi rally

[What follows is the text of a press release issued yesterday by Senator Frank Lautenberg:]

US Senator Frank R Lautenberg (D-NJ) released the following statement today after video footage showed Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset al-Megrahi attending a pro-Qaddafi rally in Libya. Megrahi is the only person convicted of the Pan Am 103 bombing and was released from prison on August 20, 2009, under the presumption he had only three months to live.

“The families of the victims of Pan Am Flight 103 have suffered so much already, and the images of Megrahi at a pro-Qaddafi rally in Libya only add salt to their wounds,” said Lautenberg. “Parading one terrorist out to support another is an affront to justice and further affirmation that Megrahi was released from prison on false pretenses. We will continue to fight for justice on behalf of the Pan Am 103 families.”

Last month, Lautenberg and Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) called on Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Attorney General Eric Holder to continue working to bring to justice those responsible for the Pan Am 103 bombing, which killed 189 Americans, as well as to return convicted terrorist Abdelbaset al-Megrahi to prison. A copy of their letter can be found here.

  2. Lest we forget, Senator Lautenberg was a member of the shadowy President's Commission on Aviation Security and Terrorism (PCAST). The PCAST team leader was Ann Korologos, former US Secretary of Labor, and its special adviser was the FBI's Oliver 'Buck' Revell.

When the seven PCAST members met a group of British PA103 relatives at the U.S. embassy in London on 12 February 1990, one of them whispered to Lockerbie relative Martin Cadman: "Your government and ours know exactly what happened. But they're never going to tell."

Mrs Korologos' Facebook friend Frank Duggan was involved with PCAST and is currently president of the American relatives' group VPAF103, Inc (although he is not a Lockerbie relative and knows very little about the disaster - see this video where George Galloway and Frank Duggan discuss Lockerbie)!

  4. Re Patrick's link to Galloway's interview of Duggan - now that it is generally accepted that Mr Gaucci received millions of dollars for his evidence, I wonder if Mr Duggan now accepts that Mr Megraghi was wrongly convicted.

  5. I agree with the senators! Lets look deeper into this Lockerbie thing and find out why this bomber fellow was released! Why, we should light the fire under some US grassroots organizations to get these questions answered. I wonder which way the inquiry will go?

(Get the smelling salts for Ms Clinton, I think she's feeling dizzy).

  6. In January 2008, a senior Libyan official Mr Abdel-Rahman Shalqam was hosted at a reception on Capitol Hill in Washington DC. Also in attendance were executives from Boeing, Occidental Petroleum, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Raythorn and many other leading American companies. The reception was hosted by officials from the US Trade Representatives Office.
Early in September that year, Codoleeza Rice met Megraghi’s boss, Colonel Gadaffi, in Tripoli. There is a rumour that he wouldn’t shake her hand as she is a woman though a number of his aides did. Here is a line of her gushing address to the man America believes masterminded the Lockerbie bombing, “We are working on a trade and investment agreement, a framework, which will allow the improvement of the climate for investment, which I know many American firms wish to do.”
Not to be outdone, in August 2009, the incoming Democrat government sent a delegation to Libya led by defeated Republican presidential candidate John McCain who noted that “bilateral ties have taken a remarkable and positive turn in recent years.”
Isn’t it amazing that Senator Lautenberg seems to be unaware of these events?
Isn’t it amazing that most Americans seem to be unaware of these events?
Maybe Michael can help us in informing them!
