It has nothing to do with Lockerbie except by means of highly remote innuendo. Perhaps that is what Baz means by this being a "good article", or perhaps it is an exercise in international relations theory about which he is so expert.

But it has nothing to do with finding out who is guilty over the Lockerbie atrocity, and I don't think Baz should continue to delude himself that it does.

Why various parts of the US intelligence apparatus should continue to allow these canards to be printed in the US and UK media, is quite obvious; it takes the heat of inquiry over their wrongdoings off them.Charleshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03662285337385107290noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1073021351804532798.post-30453284664854400172010-07-07T20:48:18.616+01:002010-07-07T20:48:18.616+01:00OK, that clears that up, thanks.OK, that clears that up, thanks.Rolfehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16206952819245786811noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1073021351804532798.post-82326282157341186772010-07-07T10:39:01.800+01:002010-07-07T10:39:01.800+01:00Apologies for the duplicate comment.+ My first co...Apologies for the duplicate comment.+ My first comment wasn't immediately published to I wrote it again later.

According to Wikipedia Jack Straw was appointed Justice Secretary on the 28th June 2007 (so he couldn't have written to Mr MacAskill's predecessor) and according to the article "Lockerbie bomber 'set free for oil'" (Sunday Times 30th Auhust 2009) the letter was dated 26th July 2007.bazhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02338162927520376063noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1073021351804532798.post-21438150797689240322010-07-06T19:49:45.080+01:002010-07-06T19:49:45.080+01:00Yet as the Sunday Times reported last year, in 200...Yet as the Sunday Times reported last year, in 2007 Mr Straw wrote his Scottish counterpart Kenny MacAskill, the man who ultimately decided on Megrahi's release, that the UK would not exclude the Libyan from the prisoner agreement.

I didn't think Kenny MacAskill was Justice Secretary when the prisoner transfer agreement was reached. The election wasn't until 3rd May, and it took quite a while after that for the SNP to be put in place as a minority government and Alex Salmond to appoint his cabinet.

I could be wrong, but I thought the deal had been concluded long before that. It's possible Straw informed MacAskill some time after the event I suppose.Rolfehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16206952819245786811noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1073021351804532798.post-52792956932981120922010-07-06T10:20:04.178+01:002010-07-06T10:20:04.178+01:00A very well written article.

I wonder if this was BP's invisible "Director of Communication" Anji Hunter (formerly Tony Blair's "gatekeeper" and the spouse of Sky News' Adam Bolton.)

As the BP story will run there was a superb article in Saturday's Mail by Tom Bower on the appointment of former BP Chief Executive Lord Browne (a man who lied in Court) as the Government's new "Efficiency Tzar" tasked to find billions in savings. Bower argues convincingly that it was Browne's ruthless and reckless costcutting (despite having his teddy bear flown from California to London at BP's expense!) that led to the explosion at a Texas refinery (with 15 fatalities) and directly to the present disaster in the Gulf of Mexico.bazhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02338162927520376063noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1073021351804532798.post-6687442799889279142010-07-06T09:46:52.365+01:002010-07-06T09:46:52.365+01:00A very well-written article.
